2011 “Friends of Old Time Radio” Convention to be the Last

Posted on August 1, 2011

The 36th annual Friends of Old-Time Radio (FOTR) convention, scheduled to be held from October 20 to 23, will be the last convention.

According to a post by Charlie Summers on his “Nostalgic Rumblings” blog, over the past few years divisions had begun to appear amongst convention attendees. The dispute was over the direction of future conventions with one side firmly rooted in the belief that the convention should remain about Old-Time Radio and others wanting to see it evolve into a broader nostalgia convention.

But Summers says, via his post, the decision to end the convention’s run was “for reasons mostly unrelated to the arguments.”

“The 2011 Friends of Old-Time Radio convention will be the final convention. Final,” the post says. “Just like old-time radio itself, the Friends of Old-Time Radio will cease to be.”

Despite this being the last year for the convention, organizers still have a full program of guests and activities. Complete information on the 2011 convention can be found here.

The convention will be held at the Ramada Plaza (formerly Holiday Inn-North) in Newark, NJ.
